Movement in SEN Schools

Sessions

Sessions are bespoke to student’s needs and interests. They can include;

  • A clear, respectful touch to support student’s embodied awareness. Expanding student’s capacities for grounding and connecting

  • Using dynamic movement to develop student's skills in coordination, finding balance and stillness.

  • Deep pressure through weighted blankets and cushions; student’s support their own self regulation

  • Activities connected to regulating breathing and calming the nervous systems

Learning through movement connects the brain and body enabling a greater sense of self awareness, which supports student’s academic, social and emotional learning.

Sessions include movement explorations to develop body awareness and activities that support student’s abilities to co, and self regulate. Increasing implicit embodied confidence enables student’s to develop soft skills in everyday tasks like sequencing, time and place.

Giving students opportunities to choose to engage with the world around them in a more meaningful ways.

My Approach

I draw on my knowledge and experience of teaching and learning through movement, neurodevelopment, integration of senses and deep pressure.

I work one-to-one, in pairs or in small groups.

My approach is from an affirmative perspective working with the student.
